The Alamance Human Relations Commission is located in Alamance County, North Carolina. It was founded in 1966 to deal with racial tensions in our schools. Strengthening human relations in our county continues to be our central mission. Through the years we have worked on:
§ founding and advising students
§ sponsoring scholarships for students doing positive work in human relations
§ sponsoring workshops on topics such as diversity, serving Latinos, conflict resolution, housing, and employment discrimination, among others
§ working with city and county law enforcement agencies for better community relations
§ hosting an annual Human Relations Awards Banquet to recognize those doing important community work
Currently we have committees working on Education, Employment and Housing.
We meet every fourth Tuesday, at 11:30 a.m., except in July and August, in downtown Burlington.
